ExpertiseRussian and European Modernism; contemporary Russian literature, language and society; cultural studies and Russian cinema. BiographyDr. Galina S. Rylkova is an Associate Professor of Russian/Slavic Studies. She was born in Moscow, Russia, and received her M.A. in Romance-Germanic languages and literatures from Moscow State University. She then moved to Canada where she received her Ph. D. from the University of Toronto in Slavic Languages and Literatures. Her teaching and research have been focused on Russian and European Modernism; contemporary Russian literature; Russian and East-European Film; and Cultural Studies. She has published articles on a wide range of topics, including cultural memory about the Russian Silver Age (1890-1917), and the writings of Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Nabokov, and Pasternak. She is the author of “The Archaeology of Anxiety: The Russian Silver Age and its Legacy,” piublished by the University of Pittsburgh Press. Apart from Russian language and literature-oriented courses, she has been teaching “The Twentieth Century through Slavic Eyes.” This course gives students an opportunity to explore the major historical, social and cultural upheavals of the twentieth century through the eyes of a large community of European Slavs. Publications |
