Application for Admission and Financial Aid

How To Apply

From the Graduate School Admissions page

  1. Contact the department you want to major in to find out its application requirements and deadlines.
  2. Read all the information and instructions on this webpage about the application process.
  3. Read all the information and instructions on the UF Office of Admission graduate admissions webpages, by clicking on this link: UF Office of Admission: Graduate Admissions.
  4. Fill out and submit your online application and application fee payment here: Online Application. If you do not have computer access and cannot use the online application system, use this PDF version of the graduate admissions application to apply by mail: Graduate Admissions Application Form (PDF) .
  5. Have your official test scores (GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, TSE) and transcripts (with official English translations of them, if the originals are not in English) sent to the UF Office of Admission (POB 114000, 201 Criser Hall, Gainesville FL 32611-4000, USA).
  6. Send the following materials to the department you want to major in: statement of purpose (letter of intent), resume or curriculum vitae, recommendation letters, test scores (GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, TSE), transcripts (with official English translations of them, if the originals are not in English) and, if applicable, a fellowship/assistantship application form, or any other materials required by your department.
  7. If you are a non-US applicant, send your Certification of Financial Responsibility Form to the UF International Center (POB 113225, 123 Grinter Hall, Gainesville FL 32611-3225, USA).
  8. E-mail your department and let it know that you have submitted your application online.

Application Fee

There is a nonrefundable $30 fee for each application you submit to a UF graduate program. You can pay this fee online by credit card or via mail with a bank check made payable to the "University of Florida."  Payment must be in US funds. Your application cannot be processed without a fee payment. The university cannot waive or defer this fee, except for participants in designated sponsored programs.

Test Score Codes

The University of Florida's school code for submission of GMAT, GRE, TOEFL and TSE scores is 5812.

Supplemental Admissions Forms

The UF Office of Admission has a number of supplemental forms that you may need to fill out and send to it as part of your application process. You can find these forms online by clicking on this link: UF Office of Admission Forms.

You also need to send the department you want to major in recommendation letter forms and, in some cases, a fellowship/assistantship application form. Click on the name of the form you want to access it:

Application by Mail

To apply for admission by mail, send completed Application for Admission and $30.00 application fee to: University of Florida, Office of Admissions, Box 11400, Gainesville, Florida 32611-2946.

Check must be payable through a U.S. bank. Make the check out to the University of Florida and show the student's name on the check. (Application fee is waived for current or former students of the University of Florida). In the case of international students payment should be in the form of an international money order or similar.

Of the following materials, one set of originals should be send to:

  1. Official transcript(s) (academic record[s]) of all college/university work
  2. Official copies of GRE scores.

The Office of Admissions and the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies require official transcripts of all scholastic work undertaken, including work done in Germany or in other foreign countries. Since some foreign universities do not send transcripts, copies of original official records may be certified at U.S. consulates, by the university itself, or by other acceptable authorities, and sent to both offices. Complete and official English translations must be furnished, together with certified copies of the original records. The records should include subjects taken and grades earned, as well as the grading system used.

For information concerning the GRE, inquire at any college or university, or write to the Graduate Record Examinations, Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 6000, Princeton, New Jersey 08541-6000. Students outside the U.S. may inquire at an American consulate.

Students who are not U.S. citizens and who do not have resident-alien status are required to submit additional materials for obtaining a visa. Follow the directions in the foreign student application and information bulletin carefully.
